Did You Know? “I Only Drive Locally” Is Not an Excuse for Bad Habits
Many drivers believe short, local trips do not require full attention or proper habits. In reality, most accidents happen close to home, on familiar roads, at low speeds.
Many drivers believe short, local trips do not require full attention or proper habits. In reality, most accidents happen close to home, on familiar roads, at low speeds. Local driving still involves intersections, pedestrians, cyclists and unexpected hazards. Bad habits formed on “easy” local routes become automatic and can cause serious accidents. Treat every drive, no matter how short, as an opportunity to practise safe habits. Observation, signalling and speed control matter just as much on a 2 km trip as on a 200 km journey.
